ARAN & Sunday Tribune Expose Trinity College Animal Experiments!

Just recently Irish author John Banville blasted Trinity College in Dublin
for using animals in medical experiments. His comments to Trinity College
made national headlines across Ireland! Shortly after Irish Sunday newspaper
- The Sunday Tribune, made a freedom of information request to Trinity
College which unearthed heartbreaking details of how much money is
squandered in animal experiments, plus the massive amount of animals that
undergo painful and deadly experiments, animals such as dogs, pigs and
others.

Shortly after the publication of the Sunday Tribune's freedom of information
request to Trinity College, Animal Rights Action Network began to receive
calls from some of the national media including the Irish Times and the
Irish Star questioning our stance on animal experiments and those at Trinity
College, the same week Matt Cooper's Last Word on Today FM covered our
position against animal testing during a live on-air interview reaching many
tens of thousands of people driving home from work, later that evening
Dublin's 98fm done another interview with ARAN's scientific consultant Andre
Menache who called for an end to outdated animal tests and to invest in more
reliable non-animal methods.

Shortly after the media contacting Animal Rights Action Network, we staged a
photocall outside of Trinity College that Thursday where 10 Animal Rights
Action Network members held a banner reading 'Animals Are Not Ours to
Experiment On', our photocall was led by a 'dog' who held a sign reading
'Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Dump Animal Experiments', the event was
attended by four reporters and three photographers including Dublin's 98fm
covering the event live, the Irish Independent also did an interview that
same day along with our campaign organizer handing a letter into Trinity
College on behalf of Animal Rights Action Network calling for an end to
animal experiments and to invest in sound alternatives! The Sunday Tribune
later covered our photocall along with comment from the ISPCA, Ireland's
national animal welfare group.

Earlier this year, Animal Rights Action Network released the findings of the
top ten most deadliest animal experiments that took place in 2007 at Trinity
College, Cork University, Queens University Belfast amongst others, our
scientific critique was passed to the media where our scientific advisors
commented on how ridiculous and repeated many of the painful experiments
were. ARAN is for medical research but without animals and points out that
after billions of dollars been invested in animal research and hundreds of
millions of animals been cruelly treated and killed, we are still no where
close to finding cures and animal experiments continue to hold back genuine
medical research.

Please join Animal Rights Action Network in calling for an end to animal
experiments and the need for better research through modern sophisticated
alternatives that do exist but are not actually been used widely.
